Upon arrival in Hue, we will visit the Citadel, Hue’s prime attraction, which contains the Imperial City, the Forbidden Purple City and the Emperor’s Private Residence. Hue Citadel was built from 1804 to 1833 under the Nguyen’s Dynasty (the last feudalist kingdom in Vietnam). The grounds of the Imperial City are protected by 2-kilometer fortified ramparts and ringed by a moat. Inside the Citadel, there are many different construction works such as: Imperial City Gates, Purple Forbidden City, Temples and places of worshipping, pavilions, gardens, etc.

Thien Mu temple

We will have a short break for lunch then take a boat trip on the Perfume River with a stopover at Thien Mu Pagoda, which is an active Buddhist monastery with its origins dating back to 1601. One of its most poignant displays is a car belonging to a former monk, who in 1963, drove to Sai Gon and set himself alight to protest against the South Vietnamese regime and its cruel treatment of Buddhist monks and followers

This was the highlight of my trip to Vietnam thus far. Even with the rain and fog the views were stunning. Mr Khanh gave an absolute masterclass on the Forbidden city and subsequent history, literally moving me to tears at one point. I cannot recommend this tour enough. 10/10

  2. Fantastic Hue Day trip

    Dodrelle

The drive from Da Nang through the Hai Van Pass was amazing, Lap an Lagoon was a very picturesque little place we stopped for loads of pictures. Our guide khanh was very friendly, knowledgeable and personable. On to the citadel, what an amazing place to visit, then on to the Pagoda and Tombs, great day learnt a lot about Vietnam.

  3. A must do tour

    Bridget (verified owner)

Khanh helped customise this trip to suit our family and it was absolutely perfect!

Our driver picked us up from our hotel. It is a long drive from Hoi An to Hue however it was very enjoyable as Khanh pointed out many interesting locations and had lots of fun facts to share. The car was also very spacious and comfortable for the journey.

The citadel and royal palace was incredible and Khanh was wonderful at answering all our questions and explaining things to us.

Lunch was included and was a very generous spread of delicious food, much more than we were expecting.

We also visited the kings tomb and the monks pagoda which again were both utterly fascinating and impressive in scale, age and cultural significance.

Khanh was patient and attentive and very watchful and engaging with our 4 year old, who adored him.

The Driver did an amazing job driving us all home in the poor weather and continuously made sure we were all comfortable and had enough water. The conversation flowed easily for the drive as Khanh shared stories and experiences from his life in Da Nang and we shared about life in Australia.

It was a memorable day for our family and such a privilege to be able to see and explore such significant cultural locations.

  4. Long day but worth it

    Caithlin (verified owner)

I didn’t realise that this was a private tour, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was towards the end of our trip, so energy was low, but Mr. Khanh wasn’t pushy with anything so we still really enjoyed the day. The tour was fantastic and he made sure to get really good photos of us. He let us decide what we wanted to do sometimes, and he was the most respectful tour guide I’ve met! Our driver, tai , was also wonderful.
